What About "Wear And Tear"

There is no denying that driving your vehicle to and from the final US destination will put a few extra miles on your odometer but this mileage is not the "wear and tear" that people often fear. In reality, highway miles are far less taxing on your vehicle than city driving. There aren't as many turns, stops and bumps, and there are far fewer "start-ups" on a trip such as this, and it is the "start-up" process that puts the most wear and tear on your engine. Most people actually believe it is beneficial to their vehicle to take it on a long run once or twice a year. Also, driving long distances is actually good for a vehicle, especially one that doesn't run at highway speeds often. It resets the engine computer, burns out harmful deposits that may have built up over time, and lubricates critical parts in the engine, transmission, and axles, prolonging the life of your automobile.

For example, It is approximately 1200 miles to go from Boston to Orlando, Florida which is about the same number of miles the average person drives in a month. In terms of wear and tear, the drive to Boston is aproximately equivalent to about one weeks worth of city driving.

Some people also mistakenly think that if they ship their vehicle by truck or by rail, it won't encounter any road hazards as it would if it were driven. Unfortunately this isn't always true. If you are planning to ship your vehicle by truck, make sure you hire a company that has covered trailers, otherwise, your car is exposed to the same road hazards, such as small gravel chips and other natural substances, such as hail, as it would be exposed to if it were being driven by one of our drivers.

Similarly, vehicles riding on trains are also exposed to debris and other weather related exposures.

Vehicles shipped by truck or rail are also prone to small scuffs and scratches due to loading, securing and unloading practices. With auto shipping, every time your car is loaded on and off a truck, something may be dented, scratched, or broken. When your car is chained down, your suspension can be damaged. Every time your car is shipped, flying road debris can hit it and leaking fluids from other cars can ruin the paint.

Therefore, driving the car greatly reduces the risk of damage.

Do You Inspect Vehicles Prior And After Delivery?

We do more than that! Vehicles are given a general written inspection for damage prior to loading and are then photographed before loading, and again at delivery.

Choosing The Right Transporter

Of course we will say to choose us. If you do want to look around for others, by all means, feel free to do so. But here is what to look for. Make sure the shipping company has insurance. Make sure the company is licensed with the federal government. If the company has an MC Number, that number shows that they can operate in all US States and Canada. Some companies just have a DOT number which only allows them to operate in their own state. We are proud to have BOTH. Next, be sure they are a legitimate company. There are some companies online that you go on a website and trucking companies bid on your transport. Be careful! A lot of those companies are not real companies. You may save some money going with those companies yet the service may be non existant, horrible, or worse, you could end up never seeing your item again.

Driving your vehicle provides reliability, flexibility and dependability. Our driver picks up your car and delivers it to your desired location...on your schedule. You won't have to wait weeks or even months for your car to be delivered. S&J will get it there when you need it. Since there is one driver with your car the whole trip, you know who is handling your vehicle, and further, will be able to contact that driver.

We NEVER broker out your car. With most companies, you should ask yourself "who will drive my car?" Well, a lot of companies just place an add in the newspaper and the first person to respond to the ad is the one that drives your car. Not with S&J Transport! Our drivers are our employees. Since we know our drivers, we allow personal belongings to be transported in your car. Most other companies don't.

We do allow pets to be transported for an small additional fee for the care and handling of your pet during the trip. We then seek out pet-friendly accomodations and will make necessary stops along the way for the comfort of your pet.
